Goblej, August 07, 2019 : Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) - one of India’s largest FMCG companies – has entered into a Wind Power Purchase Agreement to supply approx. 4 million units per annum to its factory in Goblej near Ahmedabad. The new Power Purchase Agreement entered into under 3rd party mechanism will now enable the factory to meet 25% of its total electricity requirement from Wind Power.

As per the agreement, HCCB’s Goblej factory will source electricity from windmills being operated and maintained by Trinethra, a Continuum Group company. The shift to wind power will help the company reduce its carbon footprint by 5000 tons/annum which is equivalent to planting approximately 2 lakh trees.

Dinesh Jadhav, Executive Director, Supply Chain, HCCB said, “HCCB has undertaken several initiatives towards green and clean energy utilization from solar, wind power, bio-mass and CNG which is in line with our sustainability goal to achieve 50% of our energy requirements across all factories by 2020. We remain committed to increasingly enhance the usage of renewable sources of energy in all our factories in phases."

Speaking on the occasion, Arvind Bansal, CEO and founder-promoter of Continuum said, “Trinethra is a part of the Continuum Wind group, majority owned by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, which has 600 MW operating capacity, and another 650 Mw committed for construction. Continuum is delighted to have Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages amongst its esteemed customers and partner them in their journey to work towards a sustainable future.”

HCCB is committed to promoting and adopting green manufacturing practices at its plants in India through various initiatives, including deploying newer environmental-friendly technologies, training, and evaluation with minimum impact on local ecology. Their commitment towards sustainability vastly ranges from taking smaller measures such as usage of energy efficient technology and replacement of conventional bulbs and light sources in factories with LED lights to embracing Wind Power for the production of clean and renewable electricity.
