HCCB Dedicates Five More Villages In Nemam Under Its Model Village Programme
Lives of around 1800 people of Notchimedu, Keelmaa Nagar, Melmaa Nagar, Poovayar Nagar and Pudhumaa Nagar villages in Nemam near Chennai are positively impacted from the Model Village Initiatives of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), one of India’s top FMCG companies. HCCB dedicated the five villages to the community at a function held at the Notchimedu Village Ground yesterday. Earlier in August 2019, HCCB dedicated a smart classroom equipped with an interactive digital intelligence system at the local primary school under the same initiative. So far, HCCB has dedicated 7 villages in Nemam under its model village programme.
Reflecting on the impact of HCCB’s Model Village Initiatives, M. Chandrasekar - Associate Vice President, Public Affairs & Communications, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, who was present at the ceremony said, “It’s so gratifying to know that 100 per cent people in all 5 villages have now access to clean drinking water, electricity and skill enhancement opportunities. The development is visible. I compliment my HCCB team for taking the initiative that has made such a meaningful difference in the lives of the villagers.”
Echoing the sentiments of Mr. Chandrasekar, Mrs. T. Shanthi, The Block Development Officer (Village Panchayats), Poonamallee Block, who was also present at the ceremony said, “HCCB’s model village initiatives to partner with different government agencies, local panchayat and village community is paying dividends to the society at large. We must continue to replicate this model in other areas to reach the benefits to the larger community.”
Earlier, the dignitaries visited the RO Facility with the capacity of 1000 LPH for Clean Drinking Water installed by HCCB in partnership with the Nemam village panchayat. The dignitaries also interacted with the women of Self-Help-Groups who have been trained to organize themselves, manage their funds and enhance their earnings through food-processing techniques, tailoring and plate making from the sheath of areca leaves. Towards this, HCCB dedicated one Areca Leaf Plate manufacturing unit to the women Self-Help Group at the Nemam Village.
Apart from Safe Drinking Water and Pre-Primary Education, some of the other infrastructure development programmes implemented in the five villages pertain to Access to Health, Agriculture Support, Economic Empowerment of Women, Sanitation and World Without Waste.
The objective of HCCB’s village development initiative is to provide the communities with education facilities, skill development opportunities, civic amenities and also create awareness around sanitation, hygiene and water conservation.
Appreciating the partnership between HCCB and the local community, Dinesh Ratnam, Factory Manager, Nemam Plant, HCCB said, “It’s heartwarming to see the efforts of our model village initiatives translating into a better quality of life for the people residing in the neighbouring communities around HCCB’s Nemam factory. We remain committed to continue to focus on growing with our community sustainably.”
The HCCB model village initiatives in the two villages are based on the findings of an extensive study report and collective opinion of village community and panchayat leaders.
